As 2009 draws to a close, here’s a nice set of 5 tips for a happy patron, posted at the ACRL website by Craig Anderson at Kean University: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/publications/crlnews/2009/nov/person.cfm
The main points reiterate some of the same things highlighted in our Quality Tips throughout the year, especially the importance of interacting with your patrons on a personal level (call them by their name, give them your name, listen to what they are saying, avoid overuse of scripted messages). Also, be sure and chat frequently – keep the patron informed and engaged with the process. You will have happier patrons as a result.
Happy holidays to all and here’s hoping for a quality 2010!
