After thorough testing, Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_02 (also known as Java version 6, update 2) has been declared compatible with QuestionPoint Chat. JRE 1.6.0_02. The newest version is currently available for download from http://java.com.
On the Java web site, you may find downloads to other Sun products and other versions of JRE. Be sure that you specifically choose the download for Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_02.
Notes: You may not need to download and install Java 1.6.0_02 in order to use QuestionPoint. If you have 1.4.X or 1.5.X, you may continue to run it with QuestionPoint Chat. Or you may continue to use the Microsoft VM, if that still works for you.
To install Java 1.6.0_02, follow these steps:
1. Consult your library's IT or technology department to ensure that the newest version of JRE does not conflict with other programs on your computer that require Java
2. If you do not already have them, obtain administrator privileges for your computer. You will need them to install software. If you do not have administrator privileges, contact your IT or technology department.
3. Open Internet Explorer
4. Go to the Java homepage at http://java.com
5. Click on the green button reading "Free Java Download"
You will see one of two pages:
Page 1: If you see the green button "Verify installation," click it to confirm that you have the current version of Java installed on your machine. The next page you receive should say, "Congratulations! You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6, Update 2)".
At this point, you need to do nothing else.
Page 2. If a version of Java is found that is not Version 6, Update 2, you will be prompted to install Version 6, Update 2. There are directions on the page and in the installer to guide you through the installation process.
